ICON stands for the Integrative Conservation Ph.D. Program. It is administered through the Center for Integrative Conservation Research (CICR) through the University of Georgia.
This program involves the cooperation and collaboration between the departments of Forestry and Natural Resources, Geography, Anthropology, and Ecology, with more partner departments likely to be added in the future.
Each student is a scientist within their own department, and is expected to meet the rigorous standards of their own discipline (e.g. anthropology, geography, ecology, or natural resources), but also integrate the the ideas and philosophies of the other disciplines into conservation problem solving.
